Lost Beatrix Potter Story Discovered, Set for Release September 2016

by ParentCo. January 26, 2016

Beatrix Potter's unfinished story, The Tale Of Kitty-in-Boots, will be illustrated by Quentin Blake and is set for release September 2016. Jo Hanks, a publisher with Penguin Random House Children's in Britain, made the discovery nearly 100 years after the story was written. Looking through Potter's memorabilia at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum in 2013 Hanks found a reference to a story about, "a well-behaved prime black Kitty cat, who leads rather a double life." The famous author began penning the tale in 1913 but didn't quite finish it before she died in 1943. Potter sent the unfinished manuscript to her publisher, writing in the accompanying letter that she had picked up and put down the project many times. (World famous authors: they're just like us.) Hanks believes Potter was unable to finish the tale due to the many distractions of a new marriage, a new business, failing eyesight, and a World War. Quentin Blake, the prolific artist responsible for bringing graphic life to many of Roald Dahl's books -- including Charlie and The Chocolate Factory -- has been busy illustrating The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots. Families with older children (10+) interesting in learning more about Beatrix Potter's life, might consider the 2006 film, Miss Potter (PG). As always, before making the popcorn and settling in with the kiddos, check out the film's Common Sense Media page with summary and reviews. Source: The Guardian, Washington Post
